Before I break for Christmas I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the last semester. Whilst it has been hard work I feel a sense of pride in what my students and I have achieved. We have been on a steep learning curve but it feels like we have tackled it together and that we have discovered many things along the way.
When I think about it we've tried a lot in the last few months. So here goes as I try to remember it all:
Some things have been harder to learn and use than others, Collaborate, and some tools I have only touched on and intend to explore further. It has been important to me that I only use technology where it can add value and not just for the sake of using it - there are some very cool things to use but I cannot think of a reason to use them! Whilst at the start of the semester I admit to feeling a little terrified and worried I'd bitten off more than I could chew, it actually helped by trying to do some much. It created a real impetus to learn and do things well. As the students learning depended, in part on getting this right, I couldn't afford not to work hard at it or think oh well it was just one session. I felt as though the students and I were a team trying to ensure we got the most out of everything we tried. They are just completing evaluations so I guess I'm going to find out if they felt the same way too! This semester I have tried new things and not always been sure how they would work out. This has sometimes meant taking a leap of faith knowing I have prepared and that I have a plan B. I have also realised that people are very willing to help, you only have to ask and that you don't have to do everything by yourself. The ethics team have been incredibly supportive and we have met several times to consider how things were going and what might be done differently. At the start of the semester I don't think I fully realised how helpful this would be. So what have I learnt? Where do I begin?
