My name is Kirsten Huby and I am a Lecturer in Child Nursing at the University of Leeds. I have A Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) from the University of Nottingham and am registered on part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register as an RN (Child). I also hold an MA in Healthcare Ethics (University of Leeds) as well as a PGCLTHE teaching qualification and a PGC in Health Research both from the University of Leeds. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
I am passionate about educating children's nurses and intersted in how we engage students within their learning. Over the last few years I have been using educational technology and social media within my teaching and looking for different ways to improve engagement with my students. Accessibility is also important to me as following a riding accident several years ago I have developed chronic migraine and a decompensating squint. This has necessitated learning how to use assistive software in order to be able to continue working. My other passions are spending time with my girls. My very hairy cob Summer and my GTI Labrador Cassie. They often teach me very valuable lessons that impact on my teaching. This blog is intended to help document my journey of learning as I use learning technology and help to support colleagues as they begin their own journey's. |
Why "What if I fall?"
I am not the most confident of people and have spent time improving this. One of my favourite quotes that occupies a space around my computer monitor is 'What if I fall? Oh my dear but what if you fly?' This is now one of my affirmations that I recite whenever I am anxious about trying something new. So far it has worked every time!
