My wellbeing and ability to just be had already improved just from having Summer in my life. When I am with her it is very easy to be in the now and she teaches me that a lot. However, I can only spend so much time at the yard with her and needed to consider other methods to have a similar effect. So I began to meditate.
To try and make this a part of life I did some reorganising and created a meditation corner which is peaceful and personal. I have a meditation cushion and Zabuton from Calming Breath both of which I highly recommend. In fact I love the buckwheat filled cushion so much I now have a pillow and bolster filled with the same stuff. It makes for a very comfortable sleep. I use this space everyday and sometimes do guided meditations from Buddhify or just get present and mindful focusing on my breath and letting thoughts just pass through. Already I feel calmer and more resilient. I can also put these skills into practice whenever or wherever I need them, work, travelling et cetera. I'd heard of mindfulness before but never understood it until I started to work with Summer. She needs me to be present and there with her. I am no help at all if my mind is at work and she's needing a leader if she's worried. It also doesn't help if your thoughts are saying well what if this happens or what if that happens - you need to focus on what is happening. I stumbled upon the Trust Technique and knew that was how I wanted to work with Summer. We haven't looked back and with my improved mindfulness we are making progress everyday. Sometimes that progress is just being able to say 'You know what today isn't working lets stop and try again tomorrow' and it is also about thinking 'I didn't do what I had hoped to but look at all the things we did together'. Being mindful and present is helping me be kinder to myself, be more peaceful and helping me with the confidence to try new things because if I fall I will still have learnt something.

WellbeingAs well as my journey into edtech I am also on a journey of living in the now and improving wellbeing. These journeys interlink and this page is designed to document my thoughts on this. Archives
